It’s time to start thinking about winter tires

It’s that time of year again. The leaves are falling, the temperatures are dropping and snow is either here or on its way depending on where you live. And that means you should think about putting a set of winter tires on your car.

While some of us may think we can get around fine with “all season” tires, it’s like the equivalent of wearing Air Force 1’s in the winter – it might work for a while, but you’re bound to fall flat on your ass sooner or later.

Driving Impressions: Michelin Pilot Super Sport

With spring now in full effect across southern Ontario, I decided to take my 2010 Volkswagen GTI to the tire shop and replace the factory all-season Pirelli rubber with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport max performance summer tires.

If you’re not familiar with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, they come as original equipment on several sports cars and high performance vehicles such as the BMW M3 and Tesla Model S P85D.

Michelin puts airless tires into production

For over a 100 years, vehicles have relied on rubber tires filled with air to roll them down the road.

And while these tires have continuously improved in performance, efficiency and tread life, the basic design of a pneumatic tire and the way it’s mounted onto a wheel has remained relatively unchanged, until now.
