If you thought that Tesla Model 3 momentum had slowed down, you’re wrong. During a recent speech in Amsterdam, Tesla VP of Business Development Diarmuid O’Connell revealed that the number of Model 3 reservations is now approaching 400,000 for the $35,000 all electric vehicle.
“It has exceeded all of our expectations as far as the rate at which we received reservations,” O’connell said. “This is great for Tesla Motors. It gives us the confidence to make the investments we need to make in order to build this car,” O’connell added.
Naturally, the main underlying question is whether or not Tesla can actually manufacture the Model 3 at a rate fast enough to meet shockingly high demand.
“The real success will be delivering a great product at the volumes are possible and necessary,” O’connell said during a Q&A session . He then quoted CEO Elon Musk on his plans to increase production following high demand of the long awaited Model 3.
However, while Tesla may seem aware of the challenges ahead, let’s not forget that the Model S and recently released Model X were both delayed and did not meet launch deadlines.
Surely, it seems, that if Tesla can find a way to be innovative when it comes to manufacturing the Model 3 at scale then it is likely that this mass market EV will be a huge success.
